Starting 2006, our projects were aligned to and sought to achieve the objectives defined by the eight Mellinnum Developement Goals (MDGs). On 25th September 2015, as the MDGs come to an end, the UN General Assembly adopted the new post-2015 developement agenda : Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Over the next 15 years, the new 17 goals comprising of 179 targets aim to chanelise actions in the areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet across all organisations in the world.

Driven by our mission of improving lives by poverty reduction programs in the Kwale district of Kenya, we have tuned our projects to contribute and act in line with this global agenda.

Women and children

We believe in an equitable world where women and children have access to affordable healthcare, mothers have good health and the newborn do not die in circumstances that are preventable.

We undertake a participatory approach to enable women in the area get access to skilled care during pregnancy and childbirth. Accessible and affordable maternity care services are  provided from the Rafikikenia Health center. Through our “women and children projects” we help achieve targets/goals (UNICEF reference).

With approximately a population of over 43 million people and astounding natural beauty, Kenya is a large country which continues to suffer in innumerable ways. The advantage of a good public health care system is far from reality. The population is subject to numerous issues a few of which include, High mortality rate in young children (malaria, HIV/AIDS, dysentery, respiratory infections), high prevalance of tuberculosis and high rates of malnutrition.

We focus on sustaining, improving and providing affordable healthcare services through various our projects including the RafikiKenia Healthcare center and community toilet.

Good education, we believe is one of the most promising paths for enabling individuals towards productive lives. Education enables social upliftment. Thus access to quality and affordable education which is not limited to academic pursuits but also covers vocational training forms the basis of our educational projects.

We have built a tailoring college for women, computer (Cyber) center for Makoengini village and are continously working towards executing innovative programmes to enhance the level of education within the region. Our sponsor a child project has been successful in helping children achieve quality education.

Environmental sustainability is a key concern that underpins social developement, as those living below the poverty line directly rely on the water and land resources sorrounding their communities. Most of the population in the Makoengini village and the sorrounding district of Kwale depends directly on farming and fishing.

Our environmental projects are designed with the objective to address these underlying issues and concerns. We undertake a sustainable approach towards resolution. Our workshop (social upliftment project) builds equipments including a fishing boat and nets to enable fishermen. We have built water wells and started agricultural initiatives including micro-credits for small businesses and farmers.

Social upliftment

Opportunites and necessacity concerning socio-economic developement in Kenya at a macro-economic level is widely researched and well known. Living and employability conditions of a vast majority of Kenyans (including the Makoengini village and Kwale district) are far from normal. An increasing number of people are still unable to access some basic requirements such as clean water, shelter, clothing and employment.

In our quest to contribute towards the social upliftment of Makoengini village we have seen several developements since our inception. Our micro-credit project has helped people start small businesses. Villagers have been connected to electricity enabling families to use electricty in more ways. Rafikikenia sponsored carpentry workshop and community market places have helped add to the economic income of a number of familes.
